Local SEO Checklist: Show Up on Google Search and Maps

Article updated in October 2026

If you own a Hispanic business in Orlando and your potential customers cannot find you on Google, you are losing money every single day. It is that simple. A large share of online experiences begin with a search engine, and many Google searches have local intent.

This checklist groups what your business needs to show up when people search for you into seven blocks: Google profile, NAP, reviews, bilingual content, local pages, directories, and tracking. You can work through it yourself; if you would rather delegate it, we are an SEO company in Orlando that works in English and Spanish.

Why Local SEO Matters for Hispanic Businesses

The Hispanic community in Orlando is very large. These families are actively searching for businesses that speak their language: restaurants, dentists, lawyers, mechanics, beauty salons, accountants, and more. And competition in Spanish-language searches is still low compared to English searches, which gives you a chance to stand out.

When someone searches "Hispanic dentist near me" or "Colombian restaurant Orlando," Google displays three types of results:

  1. Google Map Pack (the top 3 businesses with a map at the top)
  2. Organic results (the web pages below the map)
  3. Paid ads (Google Ads)

The Map Pack takes a large share of the clicks. If your business does not appear there, you are losing many potential customers searching for exactly what you offer.

How to use this checklist: start with blocks 1, 2, and 3 (Google profile, NAP, and reviews), which carry the most weight in the Map Pack. Then move on to content, local pages, directories, and tracking. At the end you will find a 4-week plan to do it in order.

1. Google Business Profile

Your Google Business Profile is the single most important local SEO tool that exists. It is free and has a direct impact on whether you show up in the Map Pack or not.

  • Claim and verify your profile at business.google.com if you have not already.
  • Complete 100% of the information: business name, address (or service area, if you serve customers at their location and do not receive them at a storefront), phone, website, hours, description, categories, and services.
  • Write your description in both Spanish and English. Include phrases like "hablamos español" or "bilingual service" and your industry keywords in both languages.
  • Select the correct primary category and add all relevant secondary categories.
  • Show that you speak Spanish: if your category offers language attributes, turn them on. Many Hispanic businesses miss this and lose visibility in bilingual searches.
  • Upload high-quality photos: storefront, interior, team, products or services. Profiles with quality photos build more trust.
  • Publish Google Posts every week: offers, news, tips, or events. Active profiles rank better.
  • Keep your hours up to date, especially on holidays. Google penalizes businesses with incorrect hours.
  • Answer the questions customers leave on your profile, and answer them quickly.

2. NAP Consistency (Name, Address, Phone)

NAP stands for Name, Address, Phone. Google needs to see the exact same information for your business across every place it appears online.

  • Check your NAP on: Google Business Profile, your website (footer and contact page), Facebook, Yelp, Apple Maps, Waze, Orlando local directories, Hispanic directories (like PaginasAmarillas.com or Encuentranos.com), and the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Orlando.
  • Use one address format: do not write "St" in one place and "Street" in another.
  • Use one phone number: the same number on Yelp, on Google, and on your website.
  • Use one business name: no variations (e.g., "Dr. Garcia Dental" vs. "Garcia Dental Clinic").
  • If you do not serve customers at a storefront, hide the address on your Google profile and keep your name and phone identical everywhere.

NAP inconsistency is one of the main reasons Google lowers the ranking of local businesses. Take 30 minutes to review all your listings and correct any discrepancies.

3. Reviews in Both Languages, Without Filtering Anyone

Reviews are one of the factors that weigh most in local Google rankings. Not only does quantity matter, but also quality, frequency, and the keywords customers use in their reviews.

  • Ask every customer for a review, with the same message, after every service. Do not wait for customers to do it on their own — many customers will leave a review if you ask directly.
  • Do not filter: do not ask first whether customers were happy and then send only the satisfied ones to Google. That practice, known as review gating, goes against Google's policies.
  • Offer everyone a direct channel to resolve problems, such as your WhatsApp or phone number, in the same message where you ask for the review.
  • Make the process easy: send the direct link to your profile via WhatsApp or SMS right after the service.
  • Ask for reviews in the customer's language. If the customer speaks Spanish, a Spanish review helps you rank for Spanish searches.
  • Respond to ALL reviews in the language they were written in. Thank the positive ones and address the negative ones professionally: an unanswered negative review drives away more customers than the review itself.
  • Do not offer discounts or gifts in exchange for reviews: Google does not allow it. And never buy fake reviews: Google detects them and can permanently suspend your profile.
  • Goal: a steady flow of new reviews every month. Consistency matters more than getting many at once.

4. Bilingual Content and Keywords

For Hispanic businesses, keyword research has a unique advantage: you can compete in two languages. While English searches can be highly competitive, Spanish searches for local services in Orlando typically have low competition.

  • Have your site in both Spanish and English. Do not use automatic translation — the content must sound natural in both languages. Good bilingual web design is key to this.
  • Research how your customers search. These patterns work well:
    • "[service] Hispanic Orlando" (e.g., "Hispanic dentist Orlando")
    • "[service] in Spanish [city]" (e.g., "lawyer in Spanish Kissimmee")
    • "[service] Latino near me" (e.g., "Latino mechanic near me")
    • "[service] Spanish speaking Orlando" (e.g., "Spanish speaking doctor Orlando")
    • "[food type] Orlando" (e.g., "Venezuelan food Orlando")
  • Use free tools: Google Keyword Planner (free with a Google Ads account), Google Trends (compare search volume in Spanish vs. English), Google Autocomplete (type your service and see what suggestions appear), and AnswerThePublic (questions people ask about your service).
  • Put your city in the titles and meta descriptions of your main pages, along with "en español" or "bilingual."

5. Local Pages on Your Website

Your website is the foundation of your digital presence and what Google uses to confirm what you do and where you do it.

  • Location or contact page with your address (if you receive customers at a storefront), embedded Google map, hours, and directions. If you serve customers at their location, describe your service area.
  • One page for each main service, in both languages, with your city mentioned naturally.
  • Avoid near-identical pages for each city. Swapping only the city name adds no value, and Google may treat those pages as doorway pages, which go against its policies.
  • Local schema markup: add LocalBusiness structured data so Google understands your location and services.
  • Loading speed: a slow site loses customers and rankings. Aim for under 3 seconds load time.
  • Mobile optimization: most local searches come from mobile devices. Your site MUST look good on mobile.

If your site still does not turn visits into calls, read our guide on websites that sell and, if you are planning a new one, check how much a website costs in Orlando.

6. Directory Citations and Local Links

Citations (mentions of your business with name, address, and phone on other sites) reinforce your NAP, and links from local sites carry special value for local SEO.

  • Register in 5-10 local directories: Orlando.com, VisitOrlando.com, county directories, Yelp, Apple Maps, and Hispanic directories.
  • Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Orlando: become a member and get a link in their directory.
  • Hispanic professional associations: many have online member directories.
  • Local sponsorships: sponsoring Hispanic community events (festivals, sports or school events) often includes a link on the event's website.
  • Collaborations with complementary businesses (non-competing) in your area: joint events or content that mention your business.
  • Local Hispanic media: El Sentinel, Hola Orlando, and other local outlets.

7. Tracking: How to Know It Is Working

Without tracking, you do not know which action brings in customers. Review this once a month:

  • Your Google Business Profile performance: calls, direction requests, website clicks, and the searches people used to find you.
  • Google Search Console: which searches you appear for and how many clicks you get, in English and in Spanish.
  • Google Analytics 4 with conversions: calls, WhatsApp clicks, and forms submitted from your site.
  • A UTM-tagged link on your Google profile: add UTM parameters to your website link so you can separate that traffic from the rest.
  • Reviews: how many new ones you received that month and your average rating.
  • Patience: SEO takes several months to show significant results. Compare month over month, not day by day.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  1. Not having your own website. Relying only on Facebook or Instagram is not SEO.
  2. Using only English in your online content. You are losing the entire audience searching in Spanish.
  3. Ignoring negative reviews. An unanswered negative review drives away more customers than the review itself.
  4. Filtering or buying reviews. Asking only satisfied customers or buying reviews puts your profile at risk.
  5. Not updating your information. Outdated hours, incorrect phone numbers, or services you no longer offer confuse both Google and customers.
  6. Expecting immediate results. Patience and consistency are key.

Action Plan: First 4 Weeks

Week 1: Claim and optimize your Google Business Profile to 100% (block 1). Check your NAP across all directories (block 2).

Week 2: Start your review system (block 3): send the same request to your recent customers, all of them equally, and set it up so you ask after every service.

Week 3: Research your bilingual keywords and optimize your website's main pages with those keywords (blocks 4 and 5).

Week 4: Register in 5-10 local directories, find 2-3 local link opportunities (block 6), and set up your tracking (block 7).
